Ministry of Public Works awards works to remodel access to Arroyo de la Miel

The works, with a budget of more than ten million, include a large gazebo to decongest the traffic in this black spot

The Ministry of Public Works yesterday awarded the works to remodel the access to Arroyo de la Miel, in the dreaded black point of kilometer 222 of the A-7 Mediterranean highway, with a budget of € 10.1 million. The workers will solve the current problems of capacity of the existing link by the demand generated by the environment of this urban center of Benalmádena. The length of the section, as specified in the project, which includes the acceleration, deceleration and braking lanes, is approximately 2.3 kilometers, and, as detailed Fomento, the type of the current link will be modified without changing its Functionality. In this way, all the movements between Benalmádena and the A-7 will be possible by means of the construction of a roundabout of great diameter. Braid lanes are also projected on the trunk of the A-7 between the link and the service station located between kilometers 223 and 224 and execution of a total of seven structures: two lower passes, an enlargement of an existing lower passage And four walls. In addition, sound-absorbing pavement is included in the rolling layer and 876 m of acoustic screens.

The budget for the award of the work is seven million euros less than the amount that appeared in the tender, published in the Official State Gazette in 2015 worth 17.9 million euros. The works will put a stop to a situation that has been repeated daily in rush hour for years: the traffic jams cause the drivers who are going to take the access have to wait for several minutes on the shoulder while to the left the other vehicles circulate to Speeds characteristic of a motorway, without the possibility of maintaining the distance to which the law requires and increasing the risk of accidents. The execution of the remodeling project will solve the traffic problems in this road junction, through which more than 15,000 vehicles pass each day and which has become the main entrance to Benalmadena. In spite of the unlocking of the project, the beginning of the works has not fulfilled the promised deadlines.

The president of the PP in Benalmádena, Paloma García Gálvez, under whose mandate the first budget line was obtained for this remodeling, says that it is “the best news possible” for the municipality and expects that the signing of the contract will occur “very soon “While urging both the municipal government and the national deputies” from all parties “to request in Madrid the speeding up of the last steps before the start of the work, which is still undated.

The daily problems caused by the access to Arroyo de la Miel are one of the main drawbacks of the Costa del Sol in terms of infrastructures. Garcia Galvez stressed yesterday the work of deputy Celia Villalobos, whose insistence says it has been “key” to unlock the project, which begins to materialize after years of waiting.
